Part 2: Fashion, Style and Beauty Tips for Women   Congratulations! You scored an audition. Let’s save how to act and perform during an audition for another time. Whether you have a passion for fashion or not, one of the first things the audition team will judge you on is what you are wearing. Knowing that, how do you prepare your appearance for the audition?  According to actress Margie Foley (SAG), whether it be auditioning on zoom, in person, or doing a self-tape, you “dress to suggest.” Meaning, you dress to the tone and time period of the script. The whole idea is to embody the character enough where the audition team says to themselves, “yeah, I can see her in this role.”  Here are a few basic interpretations:  Business Attire - Navy, gray or black with a white pinpoint shirt Lifestyle and Resort wear - Yoga pants are acceptable but the rest of your outfit should be loose fitting.  Runway or Print Model - Form fitting, stylish jeans with a t-shirt; boots and heels.  To put this in practical terms, take a look at the actress Beth Fraser; best known on tv as the Nasacort spokeswoman. Notice how great she looks in the color and style dress she’s wearing; a Low neck, royal blue dress that fits her skin tone perfectly. No telling what she wore or how she prepared for that audition but if you had the chance, would you have made yourself up to look like she does in the commercial?  Whether it be trying to analyze copy for a commercial or a script for a movie, the result should be the same. Dress to the character! With that in mind, for drama, wear darker colors and more earth tones. For comedy, wear brighter colors.  In general, try to look like your headshot. The audition team is scrutinizing you visually, so if you have red hair in your headshot, it may take some explaining on why you changed your hair color. Same for skin tone. If you walk in with a deep tan, knowing that most people don’t have that dark of a tan, it may be a little off putting. For your face, be mindful that everything is high definition. Therefore, don’t overdo your makeup or foundation. Many actresses have been critiqued that their facial coloring didn’t match the color of their neck.  On a final note, remember, it’s your audition performance that really matters. With that said, why not compliment your performance by dressing to suggest that, “yes, I am perfect for this role!”
