Did you ever wonder how a TV Commercial is made?  Well, it takes a lot for just a short 30 or 60 second spot.  This will explain the process from start to finish.   THE CLIENT This is the company or product to be advertised.  For instance, let’s say you are Burger King and want to do a 60 second national TV advertisement for a new product or special.  To start the ball rolling, your first call is to the Advertising Agency.   ADVERTISING AGENCY The Ad agency develops a concept for the client’s approval.   Storyboard is drawn up depicting the actions of each scene including dialog (if any) and directions for the action to be portrayed in the commercial.  A storyboard looks like a cartoon with pictures and captions. After the concept and storyboards are approved by the client, a production company is assigned.   PRODUCTION COMPANY Production teams consisting of technical staff to produce the media. Generally, the term refers to all individuals responsible for the technical aspects of creating a particular product.   DIRECTOR The director gives direction to the cast and crew and creates an overall vision through which a commercial/film eventually becomes realized or noticed.    CASTING DIRECTOR The Casting Director is one of the first steps in pre-production.  A breakdown is given to the Casting Director about talent types to be cast.  There are specific types of talent requested necessary to be used in a commercial.  For example, a doctor, business type, athletes, models, real people, etc. The audition is scheduled, casting results are forwarded to clients, choices are made and talent are booked for the shoot dates.   LOCATION SCOUT Location scouting is a vital process in the pre-production stage of commercials. Once clients decided what general kind of scenery they require for the shoot, the Location Scout searches for a suitable place or "location" and takes photos or videos to present to the clients for approval.   WARDROBE STYLIST A wardrobe stylist, also fashion stylist, is a consultant who is hired to shop and present several outfits to the client before the shoot.  After selection is made, the talent will come in for a fitting.   ON THE SET During shoot days, a number of people are required on the set:   Catering Set stylist Production Assistants Gaffers, lights, camera etc. Script person   EDITING After all is shot and done, the film goes to the editor, who works closely with the Director to finalize the final footage.
